CourseBuilder for Mac and Windows
While you can define a full golf course on your iPod or iPod touch in TeeShot, it is much easier to enter all of that information on a desktop computer. CourseBuilder allows you to define all of the parts of a course description and then with one click, upload your course to TeeShot Live.

Using CourseBuilder

CourseBuilder is very easy to use. Download the application and drag it to your Applications folder on your Mac or for Windows users, just click the link and follow the installer instructions. Launch CourseBuilder and start entering the vital statistics for your course -- address, phone number and website. This information will make it easier for other TeeShot users to contact your course to schedule a tee time.

Next, click the '+' button below the tees list to create a new tee set definition. Enter the tee name, slope and rating (these are used for handicap calculation) and then fill in the details for that tee set in the holes list below. While many golf courses don't have names for their holes, just about every course has handicap, par and length data right on the scorecard. When you are done with the first tee description, click the '+' button again and repeat this process for each tee set at your course. While you probably play from only one or two tee sets at your favorite courses, entering all of the tee set and hole information will be a huge help to other users of TeeShot who want to play at your course.

At any point, you can choose File->Save As... to save your work in CourseBuilder and it will prompt you for a folder to save the course description in to a .course file.
When you are all done with the course creation, just click the 'Upload to TeeShotLive.com' button at the bottom of the window and your course will be uploaded to this website and added to the search index so other user's can find and download your course description. If you make changes to your course description after you have uploaded it, you can just click the 'Upload to TeeShotLive.com' button again and it will update the version on the website.

Pretty simple, eh?

CourseBuilder for the Macintosh requires MacOS 10.5 "Leopard" or later to run. CourseBuilder for Windows requires .NET Framework version 2.0 or later to run. If it is not installed, the installer will try to install it

CourseBuilder tips and tricks

Here are a few things that CourseBuilder users have come up with and might be helpful as you're entering your course using CourseBuilder.

Entering multiple courses

Important note: If you are entering more than one course using CourseBuilder, make sure you create a new window for each course (File->New). We put a little identifier in each course that makes it possible to update courses later on and prevents the course from being duplicated on TeeShot Live. If you re-use a window to create a new course, though, you will overwrite the first course with the new information. Just remember, creating a new course? File->New

27 hole facilities

Some golf clubs have three 9 hole courses and when you go to play 18 holes, you will play two of the 9 hole courses to make up 18 holes. The pair of courses may be different each day at the club so to make this easiest on users, and to still be able to track 18 hole rounds as 18 hole rounds, we recommend that you create three 18 courses using the three possible combinations. For example, Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish Washington has three 9 hole courses called South, East and North. The three courses would then be North-East, South-North, and East-South. If you were playing South-East, one day you could use the East-South course but just start from the 10th hole. If you go out to just play 9 holes, then choose either of the courses that include the 9 you're playing and just enter information for the 9 holes you're playing.

Entering GPS coordinates

TeeShot 1.5 allows you to see how far you are from the green for each shot, but to do that it needs to know where the green is. CourseBuilder lets you set the GPS coordinates of the center of the green by just typing in the coordinates on the GPS tab. There are lots of ways of getting GPS coordinates, but the simplest way is probably to just use Google Maps on your computer to get the coordinates. It is a little tricky at first, but you should get the hang of it in no time.
